Veterans 5K Run & Walk

The Veterans 5K Run & Walk debuted in 2013 with a very successful 140 participants and made a strong second showing with 300 participants and an even stronger third showing with 425!  This run is to benefit the Veterans Drop-In Center in Rockford, Il on Veteran's Day Weekend.  It is a USATF certified course, and is a relatively, flat, beautiful course along the Rock River.  Dozens of veterans and military members participate in the events, along with the color guard, a shotgun start, bugler, a local Vet group singing the National Anthem, and Dog Tag Awards. The Veterans Drop-In Center is a 501c nonprofit organization formed to support all Veterans with a focus on helping displaced veterans.  They provide a positive, stable social environment  by offering a daily meal, computer usage, peer networking, free haircuts, and the ability to directly connect to local veteran's organizations.   It's an organization that exists solely on charitable donations.  They need volunteers, organizations to bring meals down, and cash donations are always accepted.  All donations are tax-deductible.  Please visit the Drop-In center and see the work they are doing.  It's located at:
